Juvenile injured in fall from Ishpeming rock face

ISHPEMING, MI— A boy was injured when he fell from a high rock face in Ishpeming Tuesday.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team responded around 6:25 p.m. to the RAMBA Epic Bike Trail between Malton Road and New York Street.

Two juveniles were riding their bikes when they decided to scale the rock face. The victim climbed to an outcropping about 40 feet high when he lost his grip and fell. His friend used his cell to call 911.

Search and rescue carried the boy about 20 yards to an ATV rescue sled, then drove him to a waiting ambulance. He was taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of minor injuries.

Marquette County Search and Rescue is reminding residents never to recreate outdoors alone and always carry a cell phone so you can call or text for help, if needed.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
