Wisconsin man killed in UTV rollover crash

LAKE, WI— The driver of a UTV was killed in a rollover crash in Marinette County Sunday.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched around 4:30 p.m. to Right of Way Road in the town of Lake.

They say Joseph La Pierre, 54, of Porterfield, Wisconsin was northbound near Maple Crest Road when he crossed the centerline and hit gravel on the southbound shoulder. La Pierre apparently overcorrected the UTV and lost control of the vehicle, which went into the ditch and rolled over.

La Pierre was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt. An unbelted female passenger was ejected from the UTV and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office, and the Marinette County Medical Examiner.

Assisting at the scene were the Lake Fire Department, Crivitz Rescue, and Bay Area Rescue.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
