Driver killed in Ishpeming accident

ISHPEMING, MI— An Ohio man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Marquette County Saturday.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched around 6:05 p.m. to County Road 581 near County Road CD in Ishpeming.

Officials say the vehicle was southbound when it went off the roadway and crashed into a guardrail. The vehicle reentered the road and crashed into another portion of the guardrail, rolled over, and came to rest in the ditch.

Deputies say the driver was unresponsive. He was given lifesaving measures, but EMS declared him dead at the scene.

Alcohol is not believed to be factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the Ishpeming City Police Department, Ishpeming Township Fire Department, Michigan State Police, UPHS-Bell EMS, and Antilla’s Towing.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
