MARQUETTE, MI— Emergency response personnel were called to Presque Isle Park Saturday to rescue an individual from the side of a cliff.

The Marquette City Fire Department was dispatched just after 2 p.m. to 10 Peter White Drive. They found a person hanging onto the rocks about halfway down a cliff, unable to climb back up.

When secondary units arrived at the scene, officials decided to employ a rope rescue. Fire department personnel set up the lines while two of them donned harnesses.

A rescuer was lowered over the cliff edge and was able to attach a harness to the victim. A 4 to 1 raising system was secured onto the main line and both the victim and rescuer were raised to safety.

The victim was assessed by a UPHS-Marquette ambulance crew, but they were uninjured and refused any treatment.

The Marquette Police Department assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
