Mohawk man killed in Allouez Township accident

ALLOUEZ TOWNSHIP, MI— A Keweenaw County man has been killed in a single-vehicle crash.

The Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office says it happened Tuesday around 2:10 a.m. on US-41 in Mohawk.

A vehicle driven by a 50-year-old Mohawk man was northbound when the driver lost control. The vehicle crossed the centerline and rolled into an unoccupied residence.

The driver had to be extricated from the vehicle. He was taken to UPHS-Portage, where he succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.

Deputies were assisted by Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post, the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, the Allouez Township Fire Department and First Responders, and the Calumet Township Fire Department.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
