Portage crash injures one

PORTAGE TOWNSHIP, MI— A Chassell man was injured in a two-vehicle crash in Portage Township Wednesday.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched around 1:50 p.m. to the intersection of Broemer and Paradise roads.

Deputies say a 79-year-old Chassell resident was towing his boat to storage when he lost control of his vehicle. He ran the stop sign at the intersection and was struck by a northbound vehicle driven by a 48-year-old Ironwood man.

The Chassell man was taken to UPHS-Portage for treatment of minor injuries.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Huron Town Fire and Rescue, MTU Police Department, Michigan State Police, Superior Service, and Mercy Ambulance.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
