Powell Township resident injured in Christmas Eve accident

POWELL TOWNSHIP, MI— A Big Bay man was injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash in Powell Township Sunday.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says it happened just past midnight on Squaw Beach Road in Powell Township.

The 64-year-old driver was eastbound when he lost control of his vehicle, which overturned and landed on its side.

No other people or vehicles were involved in the crash.

The driver was taken to UPHS-Marquette with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Powell Township Fire and EMS, UPHS EMS, and Marquette Detailing assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
