Downstate house explosion kills MTU student

NORTHFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI— A Michigan Tech student was one of four people killed when a house exploded in Washtenaw County on Saturday.

Kenneth Bragg, 22, was with his Arkansas family visiting his grandfather,
Richard Pruden, 72, in Northfield Township. Bragg, his parents Don, 53, and Hope Bragg, 51, and his sister Elizabeth, 19, died in the blast.

Pruden and Kenneth Bragg’s brother Stephen, 16, were hospitalized. Pruden remains in critical condition and Stephen has been upgraded to stable.

The cause of the explosion, believed to involve some type of gas, remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
