Driver suffers minor injuries after her pickup is hit by a train in Menominee County

MENOMINEE COUNTY, MI— A Menominee Township woman is lucky to be alive after her vehicle hit a train last Wednesday.

At approximately 3:38 p.m., the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Elmwood Road #4, west of US-41, on a report of an overturned pickup.

Deputies located the heavily damaged vehicle and determined it had collided with a train near the intersection of Evergreen Road #3 and Bay de Noc Drive.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 31-year-old Menominee Township woman, had to be extricated from her truck. She was taken to Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area for treatment and eventually released.

The driver was cited for disobeying a traffic control device.

Assisting in the incident were the Menominee Police Department, Department of Natural Resources, Menominee-Ingallston Fire Department, Aurora Bay Area ambulance, Emergency Rescue Squad, Canadian National Railway, and Menominee County 911.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
