Marquette crash sends vehicle into Lake Superior

MARQUETTE, MI— Two people were injured in a three-vehicle crash on US-41 South near Marquette Branch Prison Wednesday morning.

It happened around 7:30 a.m. The Marquette Police Department says a northbound gray Subaru SUV was rear-ended by a black Chrysler sedan. The Subaru veered off the highway, went down an embankment, and ended up in Lake Superior.

The driver of the Chrysler stopped in the road and got out of his vehicle. That’s when a blue Saturn sedan struck the Chrysler, which in turn struck the driver of the Chrysler.

Officers helped the driver of the Subaru to shore.

The driver of the Chrysler was transported to UPHS-Marquette for treatment. The drivers of the Subaru and Saturn received minor injuries, but declined medical treatment at the scene.

The Subaru was removed from the lake.

The crash remains under investigation.

Marquette Police were assisted by UPHS-Marquette EMS, Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Chocolay Township Police Department, Michigan DNR Law Enforcement, and the Marquette Fire Department.
