Name released in vehicle fire incident

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI— Police have provided a preliminary identification of the individual found deceased after a vehicle fire was extinguished in Marquette Township.

The vehicle was found engulfed Saturday night on County Road-492 near Everly Way.

Investigation reveals the vehicle had left the roadway at a high rate of speed and hit several trees before it burst into flames.

The Marquette County Sheriff's Office believes the lone occupant was Alex Duquette, 23, of Marquette Township. Due to extensive injuries and the subsequent fire, a positive identification will be made through DNA analysis.

Excessive speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
