Crash topples utility pole in Houghton

HOUGHTON, MI— One person was injured in a single-vehicle accident in Houghton Thursday.

Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post responded around 11:25 a.m. to US-41 near the Michigan Tech golf course.

They say a car driven by a 70-year-old man was southbound when he lost control of the vehicle on the icy road. The car hit a utility pole, causing it to break at the base and drop live power lines across the highway.

The driver was taken to UPHS-Portage, where he remains in stable condition.

Driving too fast for road conditions is believed to be a factor in the crash.
