Marquette Township crash kills 18-year-old passenger

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI— One person was killed and two others injured in a single-vehicle crash in Marquette Township Monday.

Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post were dispatched around 4:45 a.m. to County Road 550 near Middle Island Point Road.

Troopers say there were three people in the vehicle. One of them was ejected.

The 16-year-old male driver was taken to UPHS-Marquette with serious injuries. The front-seat passenger, a 17-year-old female, was also taken to the hospital for evaluation. The back-seat passenger, an 18-year-old male, was entrapped in the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

Troopers were assisted by the Marquette City Police Department, Marquette Township Fire Department, and UPHS EMS.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
