Boy on bicycle stuck by car near Perkins Park

POWELL TOWNSHIP, MI— A 14-year-old bicyclist was hit by a vehicle and injured Saturday afternoon at Perkins Park in Big Bay.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was called around 2:10 p.m. to Powell Township. Deputies say a 16-year-old male driver from Gwinn was leaving the park and traveling west when a 14-year-old boy from Big Bay on a pedal bike pulled in front of him.

The 14-year-old was taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

Deputies were assisted by Powell Township Fire/EMS and UPHS EMS.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
