UPDATE: Ely Township car/semi accident injures man

UPDATE: Police have released the names of those involved in the crash. Seventeen-year-old Roegen Hruska of Marquette was cited for failing to yield at a stop sign. Nicholas Hamari, 44, was taken to UPHS Marquette for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

ELY TOWNSHIP, MI— One person was injured in a two-vehicle crash in Marquette County Monday morning.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched around 11:25 a.m. to US-41 near County Road 478 in Ely Township.

A 17-year-old Marquette girl was northbound on County Road 478 when she failed to stop at the intersection with US-41. She struck a tractor-trailer driven by a 44-year-old Marquette man. He lost control of the semi, which overturned.

The semi driver was taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

Deputies were assisted by Ishpeming Township Police, Ishpeming Township Fire/EMS, UPHS EMS, Antilla’s Towing, and Crossroads Towing.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
