Woman drowns in Marquette

MARQUETTE, MI— A California woman has drowned at a Marquette beach.

City Police were dispatched Friday around 12:20 p.m. to the area of McCarty’s Cove for an AED incident involving a 63-year-old female.

Lifeguards had pulled the unresponsive woman from shallow water. They performed CPR until Marquette City Firefighters and UPHS EMS arrived. Further resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

The victim was a California resident who visits Marquette during the summer.

The incident remains under investigation.

Michigan State Police also assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
