Two killed in Iron County crash

IRON COUNTY, MI— Two people died and a third was injured in an Iron County, Michigan traffic accident Sunday.

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office says the rollover crash happened around 11:50 p.m. on Gibbs City Road near Iron Lake Road. Investigation indicates a Honda Pilot driven by a 77-year-old Pennsylvania man was northbound when he failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle went into the ditch and rolled over.

The driver and a passenger, a 72-year-old California woman, were pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger, a 72-year-old Pennsylvania woman, was taken to Aspirus Iron River Hospital with serious injuries, then transferred to Wausau Hospital.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
