Erratic driver injured in single-vehicle accident

ELY TOWNSHIP, MI— A 67-year-old man was taken to the hospital Saturday afternoon after his vehicle crashed in Ely Township.

The Marquette County Sheriff's Office responded around 1:53 p.m. to an erratic driving complaint on US-41. Deputies made contact with the vehicle near Michigamme.

The vehicle swerved and left the roadway several times. It hit a road sign and a guardrail, then left the road and stopped in a ditch on the north side of US-41 near North Max Street.

The driver was taken to UPHS-Marquette with non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were Michigamme Fire/EMS, UPHS EMS, Michigan State Police, and Antilla's Towing.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
