Man on dirt bike hit and killed by Jeep near Copper City

CALUMET TOWNSHIP, MI— A dirt bike rider was killed in a crash in Calumet Township on Thursday.

Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post say it happened just after 5 p.m. on Copper City Road near Copper City.

Investigation showed a dirt bike driven by a 27-year-old man was westbound when he lost control. The bike crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming Jeep driven by a 45-year-old man. The rider of the bike was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Keweenaw County Sheriff's Office, Laurium Police Department, Mercy EMS, and Patriot Towing.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
