Four vehicles crash in Franklin Township

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, MI— One person was taken to the hospital Thursday, following a four-vehicle crash in Houghton County’s Franklin Township.

Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post was dispatched just before 6 p.m. to US-41 near Boston Location Road.

Troopers say a vehicle was stopped in the northbound lane, waiting to turn left onto Boston Location Road. A second vehicle was stopped behind the first. A third northbound vehicle didn’t see the first two vehicles and rear-ended the second one. That caused a chain reaction where the second vehicle struck the first, then veered into the other lane. A southbound vehicle then collided with the second vehicle.

One person was taken to UPHS-Portage for treatment. All other drivers and passengers were treated at the scene and released.

Troopers say driver distraction was a factor in the crash.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
