Iron Mountain woman drowns in Dickinson County

BREITUNG TOWNSHIP, MI— A woman has drowned in the Menominee River in Dickinson County.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched Tuesday morning to a site near the Twin Falls Hydroelectric Dam in Breitung Township. They found a 38-year-old Iron Mountain woman in the water.

Personnel removed the woman from the river and declared her deceased at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation. No other information is available at this time.

Assisting at the scene were the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office Drone Team, Breitung Township Fire Department, Sagola Township Fire Department, and Integrity Care EMS.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
