Ontonagon County snowmobile crash kills one person

ONTONAGON COUNTY, MI— A Wisconsin man was found dead after a snowmobile crash in Ontonagon County Friday.

The Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched around 12:47 p.m. to Trail #3 (the Bill Nichols Trail) near the Houghton County line. Deputies found a 44-year-old Greenleaf, Wisconsin man deceased.

Excessive speed is believed to be a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were Michigan DNR Officers, Aspirus MEDEVAC, Twin Lakes Fire and Rescue, Ontonagon County Medical Examiner's Office, and 906 Services and Towing.

No other information will be released at this time.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
