Woman dies in Schoolcraft County snowmobile accident

INWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI— A Wisconsin woman was killed in a snowmobile accident in Schoolcraft County.

Friday around 7:20 p.m., Michigan State Police from the Manistique Outpost were taken by snowmobilers to the crash site on Haywire Grade Trail about three miles northwest of Thunder Lake Road in Inwood Township.

Preliminary investigation reveals a 46-year-old woman from Dodgeville, Wisconsin was riding southbound when she failed to negotiate a curve and hit several trees.

Members of her riding group arrived at the scene shortly after the crash happened and called 911. They began CPR before troopers and first responders arrived, but the woman succumbed to her injuries.

Neither alcohol nor drug use are believed to be factors in the accident.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
