WAUSAUKEE, WI— A Marinette County woman sustained fatal injuries in a single-vehicle crash on Friday.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched around 8:30 p.m. to State Highway 180 and Old County C for a complaint about a driver who was possibly intoxicated.
As deputies tried to locate the vehicle, at 9:12 p.m. Marinette County Dispatch received a report of a single-vehicle crash near W4755 Highway 180 in the town of Wausaukee. A vehicle had left the roadway and was in some pine trees. Officials later determined the vehicle involved in the crash was the one from the original complaint.
Investigation revealed a vehicle driven by Sandra Kollenbroich, 48, of Wausaukee was eastbound when she failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle entered a ditch and crashed into a tree.
Kollenbroich, who was not wearing a seat belt, was killed in the crash.
Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the accident, which remains under investigation by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office. Assisting at the scene were the Wausaukee Fire Department, Wagner Fire Department, and Wausaukee Rescue.
