Passenger killed when 2 vehicles collide in Chippewa County

CHIPPEWA COUNTY, MI— A downstate man was killed in a two-vehicle accident in Chippewa County over the weekend.

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched Saturday around 4:52 p.m. to Mackinac Trail on the I-75 overpass.

Investigation found that the driver of a vehicle lost control on the snow-covered roadway. As it slid sideways, a second vehicle struck its passenger side.

The front passenger of the first vehicle, a Brown City man, did not survive. The other two occupants of the first vehicle were taken to MyMichigan Medical Center Sault for treatment.

Deputies say the occupants of the second vehicle were not at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

Assisting in the incident were the Bay Mills Police Department, Dafter Fire Department, Kinross EMS, Bay Mills Emergency Connection, Central Dispatch and the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Victims Services Unit.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
