Wisconsin man dies in Stannard Township snowmobile accident

STANNDARD TOWNSHIP, MI— An Ontonagon County snowmobile crash has claimed the life of a Wisconsin man.

The Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office says it happened Friday around 11:08 p.m. on Trail #3 near Federal Forest Road 730 and US-45 in Stannard Township.

Officials found the 36-year-old man from Bonduel, Wisconsin and initiated lifesaving measures. The victim was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The Sheriff’s Office says speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the accident, which remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were SONCO South Ambulance Service, the Bruce Crossing Fire Department, Ontonagon County Medical Examiner's Office, Cane Funeral Home, and Lake Gogebic Towing.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
