AuTrain Township snowmobile accident claims man's life

AUTRAIN TOWNSHIP, MI— A downstate man was killed in an Alger County snowmobile crash Monday.

The Alger County Sheriff’s Office says around 3:20 p.m., County Dispatch received a 911 call reporting an accident on Trail #8 near AuTrain Camp Road in AuTrain Township.

When personnel arrived, they found a 61-year-old Edwardsburg man unresponsive. He was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

It was determined the victim failed to negotiate a curve in the trail. He was ejected from the snowmobile and struck several trees.

Excessive speed is believed to be the main factor in the crash, but alcohol was determined not to be a factor.

Alger County EMS, Alger County Rescue "21" and Michigan State Police assisted at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
