Fatal crash in Stephenson, WI

STEPHENSON, WI— A Pound, Wisconsin man was killed in a single-vehicle traffic crash in Marinette County last week.

Sheriff Randy Miller says Friday at 7:52 p.m., Central Dispatch received a report of an accident on West 32nd Road at 49th Road in the town of Stephenson. It was reported the airbags deployed.

Investigation indicates a vehicle driven by Edward Van Caster, Jr., 53, was eastbound when he failed to stop for the stop sign at 49th Road. The vehicle went into the ditch and crashed into a tree.

Van Caster, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, sustained fatal injuries.

Speed appears to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Pound Fire Department and Crivitz Rescue assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
