One person killed in Gogebic County crash

MARENISCO TOWNSHIP, MI— The driver in a fatal crash has been arrested in Gogebic County.

Michigan State Police from the Wakefield Post and deputies from the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office responded Wednesday around 11:20 p.m. to a report of a single-vehicle rollover accident. It happened on M-64 in Marenisco Township.

The 57-year-old driver, a Marenisco man, was headed southbound when he lost control and the vehicle rolled over.

The front-seat passenger, a 45-year-old Bessemer woman, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The back-seat passenger, a 33-year-old Bessemer man, was treated and later released from Aspirus Ironwood Hospital for minor injuries. The driver was treated for minor injuries.

The driver was arrested for operating while intoxicated, causing death and lodged at the Gogebic County Jail.

No further details have been released.

The crash remains under investigation.

MSP was assisted on the scene by the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department, Beacon Ambulance, Marenisco First Responders, and Gogebic County Victim’s Services.
