Man killed in Houghton County crash

PORTAGE TOWNSHIP, MI— One person was killed in a single-vehicle accident in Portage Township Sunday night.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 9:05 p.m. on Paradise Road near Pilgrim Road.

The 24-year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A 22-year-old male passenger was not injured.

Officials say speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Michigan State Police, Hurontown Fire and Rescue, Mercy EMS, and Superior Service Towing assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
