Peshtigo woman killed in Wagner crash

WAGNER, WI— A Marinette County woman died in a single-vehicle accident in the town of Wagner Monday.

Sheriff Randy Miller says it happened around 9:25 a.m. on County Highway X west of Phillips Road.

Investigation indicates Jessica Garbaciak, 49, of Peshtigo was eastbound when she failed to negotiate a curve. She lost control of her vehicle, which crashed into a ditch on the opposite side of the highway. Garbaciak, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and the Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Assisting deputies at the scene were the Wisconsin State Patrol, the Wagner Fire Department, Wausaukee Rescue, Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area EMS, and 180 Auto & Towing.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
