Woman suffers life-threatening injuries in Manistique crash

MANISTIQUE, MI— One person is hospitalized following a head-on crash in Manistique Wednesday.

The Manistique Public Safety Department responded around 11:40 a.m. to US-2 near Chippewa Avenue. Officers say a Toyota Camry driven by a 75-year-old Alanson woman was eastbound when it turned into the path of a westbound Toyota Venza driven by a 49-year-old Garden woman.

Both drivers and a 14-year-old passenger in the Venza were taken to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital. The occupants of the Venza were later released. The 75-year-old woman was transferred to UPHS-Marquette with life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were Michigan State Police, the Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Office, Sault Tribe Police Department, and Manistique EMS.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
