Man falls to his death in the Keweenaw

COPPER HARBOR, MI— A man fell off a cliff and died in Copper Harbor on Saturday.

The Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office was notified around 12:10 p.m. of the incident near Manganese Falls.

A man in his 50s was walking along a path when he fell 25 feet off a cliff section of the falls. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials say the fall does not appear to be suspicious in nature. The man’s name will not be released.

Copper Harbor Fire, Keweenaw County Search and Rescue, Michigan State Parks and Recreation, and Calumet Township Fire assisted at the scene.

The area does not have cell phone coverage and radio reception is intermittent. The Sheriff’s Office is reminding the public to be cautious and know your limits before venturing into outlying landscapes to enjoy the area.
