Mackinac County tractor-trailer crash closes one lane of US-2

MACKINAC COUNTY, MI— No injuries were reported, following the crash of two tractor-trailers on US-2 in Mackinac County Thursday.

Michigan State Police from the St. Ignace Post say it happened around 11:37 a.m. near the Millecoquins River Bridge.

Several eastbound vehicles had slowed or stopped in order to turn left onto East River Road. An eastbound red tractor-trailer was traveling behind a blue tractor-trailer when it attempted to stop, but couldn’t. It crashed into the blue tractor, which was hauling an empty livestock trailer.

The red tractor sustained significant damage. The blue tractor’s trailer was also damaged.

No one was injured. The crash resulted in a single-lane closure of US-2.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. The driver of the red tractor-trailer was cited for failure to stop in an assured clear distance.

Assisting agencies included the Michigan State Police Gladstone Post, Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office, the Garfield Township Fire Department, and Great Lakes Towing.
