Chocolay crash kills one, witnesses sought

CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP, MI— The Chocolay Township Police Department is seeking eyewitnesses to a fatal two-vehicle crash on M-28 near Riverside Road Monday.

It happened around 12:30 p.m., prompting the closure of a section of the highway as officers investigated.

First responders performed lifesaving measures on the driver of one of the vehicles, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.

Township Police are asking anyone who may have seen the accident to call the department at 906-249-4040.

Assisting at the scene were the Chocolay Township Fire Department, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, and UPHS EMS.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
