Man dies after motorcycle hits deer in Florence

FLORENCE, WI— One person was killed in a motorcycle/deer crash in Florence County Friday.

Around 9:55 p.m., Florence County Dispatch received a 911 call regarding an accident on Menominee River Road in Florence. Both the driver, a 59-year-old man, and passenger, a 59-year-old woman, sustained injuries. Neither were wearing a helmet.

Deputies from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office and Florence County EMS attempted lifesaving measures on the driver, who sustained severe head trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was transported to Marshfield Medical Center Dickinson and later released.

Deputies were also assisted at the scene by the Florence Fire Department, Integrity Care EMS, and the Florence County Coroner. The Marinette County Sheriff’s Office also assisted on scene with accident reconstruction.

The accident is still under investigation; therefore, names will not be released.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
