ATHELSTANE, WI— An Illinois man died in an ATV accident in Marinette County over the weekend.
Saturday at 5:30 p.m., Marinette County Dispatch received a report of a single ATV crash on a trail system east of Benson Lake Road in the town of Athelstane.
Investigation revealed Michael Labree, 55, of Gilberts, Illinois, was eastbound when he failed to negotiate a curve. The machine rolled over. Labree, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected and sustained fatal injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and the Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Assisting at the scene were the Athelstane Fire Department, Silver Cliff Rescue, and Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area EMS.
