Motorcyclist killed in Marquette roundabout crash

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI— A Sault Ste. Marie man has died in a motorcycle crash in Marquette.

Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post were dispatched Thursday around 5:12 a.m. to the roundabout at US-41 near County Road HQ.

Troopers say a 40-year-old man was eastbound on the bike as he approached the roundabout. He lost control of the motorcycle, which crashed into the roundabout berm. The driver was ejected.

Troopers began lifesaving measures before EMS arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. He was not wearing a helmet.

The victim’s name is being withheld at this time.

Excessive speed appears to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

The motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the crash.

MSP was assisted by the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Marquette Township Fire and Rescue Department, and the City of Marquette Fire Department.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
