Police investigating fatal crash between vehicle and tanker in Menominee County

MENOMINEE TOWNSHIP, MI— One person was killed in a traffic crash on M-35 in Menominee Township Wednesday.

The Menominee County Sheriff’s Office was called around 6:06 a.m. to the highway near Elmwood Road. The incident involved a collision between a vehicle and a tanker truck.

One of the occupants of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Another occupant was taken to Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area and later flown by helicopter to Milwaukee for advanced medical care. A third person was taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.

The identities of those involved are being withheld pending notification of the families.

The crash is under active investigation.

Assisting in the incident were the Menominee City Police Department, Michigan State Police Accident Investigation Unit, Menominee Fire Department, Marinette Fire Department, Menominee-Ingallston Volunteer Fire Department, Menominee County Road Commission, Aurora Bay Area EMS, Emergency Rescue Squad, Inc., the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office Victim Services and Special Deputy Units, and Menominee County 911.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
