Menominee Township man killed in 3-vehicle crash

MENOMINEE TOWNSHIP, MI— A three-vehicle crash in Menominee Township has claimed the life of one person.

Sunday just after noon, the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to County Road 577 near the intersection of Number 2 Road on a report of a personal injury accident.

Witnesses say a southbound SUV driven by Gary Nyman, 85, of Menominee Township crossed into the northbound lane. It struck two oncoming pickup trucks, one of which was pulling a camper, before becoming disabled in the middle of the road.

The drivers of the trucks sustained minor injuries. Nyman suffered fatal injuries, despite lifesaving measures being initiated by law enforcement and medical crews within six minutes of the crash being dispatched.

The incident remains under investigation. The Michigan State Police is assisting with accident reconstruction.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
