Jet skier who wasn't wearing a life jacket drowns in Little Bay de Noc

DELTA COUNTY, MI— A jet skier lost his life on Little Bay de Noc on Friday.

Around 3:45 p.m., local law enforcement was dispatched to a site near the Gladstone Harbor for two people who had fallen off a jet ski and were in distress.

Units from the Michigan State Police and Gladstone Public Safety responded, along with a citizen and their boat. They found and rescued a female subject from the water and brought her back to shore.

Delta County Sheriff’s deputies arrived soon afterward in a patrol boat and located an unresponsive male subject. He was brought to shore and taken to St. Francis Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Neither person on the jet ski was wearing a life jacket.

Assisting in the incident were Delta County Central Dispatch, the Delta County Sheriff Dive Rescue Team, DNR Conservation Officers, and Rampart EMS.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
