Delta County crash claims the life of Escanaba man

BARK RIVER, MI— One person was killed in a two-vehicle traffic crash in Bark River last week.

The Delta County Sheriff’s Office says it happened Friday around 12:45 a.m. on US-2/41 near the Highland Golf Course.

Deputies found one of the vehicles on its side. The drivers of both vehicles were entrapped and had to be extricated.

The drivers are identified as Thomas Murray, 61, of Bark River and Derec Nelson, 26, of Escanaba. Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

Deputies were assisted by the Michigan State Police, Escanaba Department of Public Safety, Rampart EMS, and the Ford River Fire Department.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
