Ely Township man injured in snowmobile crash on New Year's Day

MICHIGAMME TOWNSHIP, MI— One person was injured when two snowmobiles crashed on New Year’s Day in Marquette County.

Sheriff’s deputies responded around 11 a.m. to Trail 8 near the Peshekee Grade.

They say a sled driven by a 73-year-old Ely Township man collided with a snowmobile driven by a 15-year-old Michigamme boy. The 73-year-old was thrown from his sled and injured. He was taken to UPHS Bell for treatment.

The accident remains under investigation.

The Sheriff's Office reminds everyone to Ride Right while on the trails to reduce accidents.

Assisting in the incident were Michigamme Township First Responders, the Michigamme Township Fire Department, and UPHS-EMS.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
