Florence man who suffers medical event causes crash, later dies

FLORENCE, WI— A medical event led to a traffic crash and the driver’s death in Florence County, Wisconsin last weekend.

Saturday just after 7 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office was called to US-2 and North Lake Road in the town of Florence.

Officials say a vehicle driven by Frank Bilsky, 85, of Florence was eastbound when it struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Amy Klemp, 61, of Florence. Investigation reveals Bilsky suffered a medical event prior to the accident.

Deputies and EMS performed lifesaving efforts on Bilsky, who was airlifted to Wasau Aspirus Hospital. He later died from the medical event that happened before the crash.

Klemp was treated at the scene and released.

The Florence County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Florence County EMS, Florence County Emergency Management, Florence Fire Department, Aspirus MedEvac, Northwoods Auto, Edwards Automotive Towing, and Bigfoot Liquors (Landing Zone).
