Woman killed in Chocolay Township snowmobile accident

CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP, MI— The Chocolay Township Police Department is reporting the death of a woman in a snowmobile crash on Friday.

Around 10:30 a.m., police, Marquette County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations, and the Chocolay Township Fire Department responded to Trail 417, about a mile into the township from the Alger County line.

Police were taken to the scene by several snowmobilers. Someone was already performing CPR on the 44-year-old when they arrived. Officers continued lifesaving efforts as the woman was taken to a UPHS-Marquette ambulance. She later succumbed to her injuries.

Chocolay Police, Marquette County Sheriff’s Special Operations, and the Michigan DNR are investigating the accident. They believe the woman hit a dip in the trail, which caused her and the snowmobile to leave the trail.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
