NEGAUNEE, MI— A Marquette woman was cited for speeding after she struck a Negaunee City Police patrol car Monday.
Around 12:25 p.m., officers were policing a traffic crash on US-41 West near Teal Lake. Their patrol vehicle was parked with its emergency lights activated when it was hit from behind by a Chevy Malibu that was westbound on the highway.
The driver of the Malibu, a 35-year-old Marquette woman, and her 11-year-old passenger were examined by EMS at the scene and released. The officer inside the parked vehicle was taken to UPHS-Bell and cleared to return to duty.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
The accident was investigated by the Michigan State Police. The Marquette driver was cited for speeding.
Drivers are reminded of Michigan’s Move Over law, which requires them, if safe and possible, to move into an open lane away from stationary emergency vehicles, tow trucks, utility service vehicles, and road maintenance vehicles with flashing lights.
