Woman killed in Skandia motorcycle crash

SKANDIA TOWNSHIP, MI— One person was killed in a motorcycle crash in Skandia Township Sunday.

Deputies from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched around 1:40 p.m. to US-41 and Carlshend Road. They say a pickup truck that was westbound on M-94 collided with a motorcycle that was southbound on US-41.

The male driver of the motorcycle was taken to the hospital with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries. Though life-saving measures were attempted, the female passenger on the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The occupants of the pickup were not injured.

The names of those involved are not being released at this time. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Assisting in the incident were the Michigan State Police, DNR Law Enforcement, UPHS EMS, Skandia Township Fire & EMS, Heavy Hooker towing, Marquette Detailing Towing, and the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
