Pedestrian killed in Baraga County crash

BARAGA, MI— A traffic crash has claimed the life of a L’Anse woman in Baraga County.

Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post responded Monday around 10:20 p.m. to US-41 near the Baraga Lakeside Inn. They say a vehicle driven by a 66-year-old L’Anse man was traveling southwest when a 50-year-old woman entered the roadway on foot. The driver was unable to avoid striking her.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was medically evaluated on site and released.

The crash remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
