Marinette County crash claims the lives of two teen boys

fatal crash

LAKE, WI— Two teenagers died in a single-vehicle crash in Marinette County Saturday.

Marinette County Dispatch received an iPhone crash notification around 10:55 p.m. from Highway G in the town of Lake. A short time later, dispatch received another call from someone who came upon the crash near Loomis Road.

Sheriff’s deputies say a vehicle driven by Landen Englund, 16, of Menominee was southbound on County Highway G when he failed to negotiate a curve and left the roadway. The vehicle went into the ditch and struck a tree.

Englund was killed in the crash. His front-seat passenger, Princeton Welty, 17, of Crivitz, Wisconsin, also sustained fatal injuries. Two other passengers sustained serious injuries. One of them was ejected from the vehicle.

Speed appears to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
