Marinette County man dies when his motorcycle strikes vehicle in front of him

PORTERFIELD, WI— A Crivitz man was killed when his motorcycle hit a vehicle in the town of Porterfield Monday.

The Marinette County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened around 4:40 p.m. on State Highway 180 near Sequin Road.

Investigation indicates a Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by Brian Thoreson, 42, was northbound on the highway when it failed to stop for another northbound vehicle driven by Dorothy Kawalski, 66, of Marinette. She was in the process of slowing down and stopping for a vehicle that was preparing to turn onto Sequin Road.

Thoreson, who was not wearing a helmet, crashed into the back of Kawalski’s vehicle and sustained fatal injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and the Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office. Assisting at the scene were the Grover-Porterfield Fire Department and Aurora Medical Center – Bay Area EMS.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
